Parts of a Lawnmower
from: Lawnmowers are composed of several parts, each with a particular job in making the entire machine work properly. This makes mowers simple and complex at the same time. Simple because being familiar with each of them makes replacing each part easy as long as one knows what needs to be changed. They are also complex because it takes a competent mechanic to know where a particular part goes and to service the machine.Though you plan to take a mechanic when your lawnmower gets out of order, it would still be best that you get familiarized with its parts so in case of emergency, you don’t have to call a mechanic.
1. Blade. This is where metal meets the grass. It is the part responsible for cutting the grass and doing it neatly and evenly. Depending on the mower, it can be made of materials such as steel, aluminium and plastics. However, it is suggested that when you purchase a lawnmower, look for blade made of hard material such as hardened still to make it last longer and have better performance. When something goes wrong with the cutting procedure, try to check the blade since regular use of the lawnmower makes it dull. Have it sharpened right away with safety precautions.
2. Engine. If you own a motorized lawnmower, this is what keeps your blades turning. Engines used in lawnmowers are typically the single stroke types which pack enough punch for the job. Moreover, engines also helps in making the process faster and efficient.
3. Handle. This is the part of the mower where you have the most control, for the human-powered ones at least. When buying this part, make sure to get that which is made of sturdy parts like stainless steel or any lighter alloy and fitted with rubber to prevent your hands from slipping. Height-adjustable handles allow for better comfort, but at a minimum your handles should be able to fold over for more compact storage. Upswept handles have a curve in them to allow for better ergonomics and easier pushing.
4. Wheels. This part helps in moving the lawnmower, especially for large ones. They can be made of different materials depending on the type and size of lawnmowers. For example, small, push-type lawnmowers are usually equipped only with plastic wheels while larger ones like the ride-on types have steel wheels.
Basically these are the parts that make up a lawnmower. However, for automatic lawnmowers which have a more complex system, try to consult its user manual or ask for the assistance of the manufacturer when you get trouble from these parts.
